Joke of 11/28/2024:
What’s a golfer’s favorite type of music?
Swing!

Story: The Swing of Things

The sun was just beginning to rise, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink as Jack pulled into the parking lot of the Sunny Hills Golf Club. It was tournament day, and Jack was both excited and nervous. He’d been practicing his drives and putts for weeks, hoping to finally win the annual amateur tournament. But today, he had a secret weapon—music.

Jack was known in his golfing group for being a little… unconventional. While most golfers focused on their form, Jack believed in rhythm. He was convinced that the key to a perfect golf swing wasn’t just technique—it was music.

As he unpacked his clubs, his best friend and teammate, Greg, approached. “Jack, please tell me you didn’t bring your speaker again,” Greg groaned.

“Of course I did!” Jack replied, pulling out a small portable speaker. “How else am I supposed to find my rhythm? You know what they say—golf is all about the swing!”

Greg rolled his eyes. “And let me guess, your playlist is nothing but jazz?”

“Not just jazz,” Jack said with a wink. “It’s swing jazz. You’ll thank me when we win.”

The tournament kicked off with a shotgun start, and Jack and Greg were paired with two other competitors. As they approached the first tee, Jack turned on his speaker, letting the smooth sounds of Benny Goodman fill the air. The other golfers looked confused, but Jack just smiled.

“Trust me,” he said. “It’s all about getting into the swing of things.”

Jack stepped up to the tee, took a deep breath, and let the rhythm of the music guide him. His backswing was smooth, his downswing precise, and his drive sailed straight down the fairway.

“See?” Jack said, turning to Greg. “It works!”

Greg muttered something under his breath but couldn’t argue with the results. Jack’s first hole was a birdie, and the music seemed to be helping.

By the fifth hole, Jack’s musical approach was drawing attention. Other players started asking him about his playlist, and a small crowd gathered to watch as he sank a long putt on the eighth green, the upbeat tempo of swing jazz still playing in the background.

“You know,” one of the other golfers said, “I think you might be onto something. This music really puts you in the zone.”

“It’s not just music,” Jack replied. “It’s swing music. Perfect for the perfect swing.”

Greg finally began to see the humor in the situation. “Alright, Jack,” he said, laughing. “If we win this thing, I’ll let you DJ every round from now on.”

As the tournament progressed, Jack’s rhythm-based strategy continued to pay off. He nailed a difficult chip shot on the twelfth hole and avoided the water hazard on the tricky fifteenth. By the time they reached the eighteenth hole, Jack and Greg were tied for the lead with another team.

The final hole was a challenging par-5 with a dogleg right and a heavily guarded green. Jack stood at the tee, the pressure mounting. He adjusted his grip, turned up the volume on his speaker, and let the music take over.

His drive was perfect, splitting the fairway. His second shot, a long iron, landed just short of the green. As the crowd gathered to watch his final approach, Jack selected his wedge and took one last look at the pin.

The swing was smooth, effortless, and perfectly in sync with the music. The ball landed softly on the green, rolling toward the cup before stopping just inches away.

The crowd erupted in applause, and Greg clapped him on the back. “Nice work, Jack. Looks like your music trick actually worked.”

Jack tapped in for birdie, securing the win for their team. As the crowd cheered, Jack raised his speaker triumphantly. “Let this be a lesson to everyone,” he said with a grin. “When in doubt, just swing!”

Back at the clubhouse, Jack was the star of the evening. People couldn’t stop talking about his unconventional strategy, and the tournament organizers even gave him a special award for “most entertaining player.”

From that day on, Jack became a local legend. He started hosting “Swing Music Sundays” at the club, where golfers of all skill levels could enjoy a round of golf accompanied by the sweet sounds of jazz. And while not everyone believed in Jack’s rhythm-based approach, one thing was certain—he always kept golf fun.

As Greg liked to say, “With Jack around, every game has a good swing to it.”
