Story: Towel Trouble
It was a sunny afternoon at Lakeside Golf Course, and Emily and her best friend Jake were ready for their weekly round of golf. The course was known for its challenging water hazards, especially the infamous 13th hole—a par-3 with an island green surrounded by a large pond.
Before they teed off, Jake rummaged through his bag and pulled out a bright yellow towel.
“Seriously, Jake? Why the giant towel?” Emily teased.
Jake grinned. “You never know when you’ll need it—especially around here. The water loves my golf balls.”
Emily rolled her eyes. “You’re not supposed to visit the water; you’re supposed to avoid it!”
The first few holes went smoothly. Emily was playing her best game in weeks, while Jake struggled a bit but managed to stay dry—so far.
Then they reached the dreaded 13th hole. The sparkling water surrounding the green glistened under the sun, daring golfers to test their skill—or their luck.
Jake teed up his ball, took a deep breath, and swung hard. Whack!
The ball soared high… but faded right. It splashed into the pond with a dramatic plop!
Emily burst out laughing. “Tough break, Jake! Better grab that towel!”
Jake sighed but chuckled. “Told you it would come in handy.”
Determined not to lose another ball, Jake teed up a second shot. This time, he hit it straight—but too short. The ball bounced off a rock on the edge of the pond and shot back toward the tee, landing just a few feet away.
Emily doubled over with laughter. “That towel’s working great… for me!”
Jake groaned. “Third time’s the charm.”
He lined up again, swung carefully, and… splash! The ball found the water for the third time.
Jake grabbed his towel dramatically, held it over his head like a championship belt, and shouted, “At least something here isn’t sinking!”
By the time they finally made it past the 13th hole, Jake was down three golf balls—but his towel was still perfectly dry. As they walked to the next tee, Emily couldn’t resist one more jab.
“Maybe you should try hitting the ball with the towel next time.”
Jake laughed. “Or just trade my clubs for a fishing net!”
From that day on, Jake’s towel became a running joke at Lakeside Golf Course. Anytime someone landed in the water, someone else would shout, “Better call Jake—he’s got a towel for that!”
